Chris Johnson (he/him) - Group Fitness Coach

Hometown: Port Angeles, Washington

Athletic History: I grew up playing baseball, football, and lacrosse with a couple stints on the wrestling mat. After high school I joined the Marine Corps and did a bunch of ridiculous things for 14 years to continually prove that I was maintaining my physical fitness. I left the Marine Corps and beautiful San Diego in 2017, moved to West Seattle, and bought a home 0.5 miles from a CrossFit gym that I ignored for the first 15 months. In 2018 I dated a woman who did CrossFit (was not captured in her bio). After 2 months of hearing about her calluses and WODs I snuck out of the house and went to an orientation at the crossfit gym. A month later we broke up but the gym and I stayed together. It's borderline abusive at times but I'm "happy".

Coaching Background: I got my L1 certification in 2019 and have been coaching at CrossFit Loft in West Seattle since then. I added Left Side to my resume in December 2024! Outside of CrossFit, I’ve also coached high school and youth football, middle school/high school wrestling, and led various fitness programs while in the military. In 2022 I completed my 200 Hr Yoga teacher certification and now teach classes occasionally. My goal as a coach is to safely have FUN, build confidence in athletes, make sure the music is dialed, and then find a cue or two that you haven't heard that helps unlock something or make something stick.

Favorite Athletic Activities: Most things outside - anything from skiing to fishing and crabbing.

Favorite Non-Fitness Activities: Eating, gardening (love my roses and hydrangeas), board games and puzzles.

What I Wish I Knew When I Started CrossFit: I wish I knew how unimportant the weight on the bar or the complexity of the gymnastics movement was when scaling a workout. Do YOU. And always do more MOBILITY!
